Flat light

Sunday, November 12th, 2006

So this is a post about a flat light. A light emitting capacitor in fact.
Sounds like something that is both totally cool, and could have some amazing uses in interior design. You could wrap light around almost anything!

Rumblings of a Home furnishing downturn

Thursday, November 2nd, 2006

There have been some rumblings of late that the home furnishing market is facing a bit of a downturn. This may be the case. Both Pier 1 and Cost Plus have seen their same-store sales dip. It is also believed that the home furnishing industry market is dependent upon the home market, which itself has […]

The hopes of an industry in a racecar bed

Friday, October 27th, 2006

It looks like some parts of the home furnishing industry might be focusing on children as the key to purchasing decisions. This is similar to what the fast food industry did a while ago.
I can see how the fast food industry was able to cash in on this. Food is regularly needed and has an […]

“Granny Chic”

It might be just me, however, I feel like the bold colors and large patterns of the 1970’s are back in style again. For example, check out the wallpaper used in Lucky Number Slevin.
Here is an article that claims it is not in fact the 70’s that are making a comeback, it is what […]

Dueling Furniture Shows

Tuesday, July 25th, 2006

Las Vegas is still trying to take the “United States Furniture Show” crown from High Point North Carolina. It would appear that hotel rates are a key feature at the moment. The plethora of hotels in Las Vegas appears to give it an advantage on this characteristic.

Fingertip Amputation Avoidance

I know many people who aboslutly love Ikea. I have heard of this devotion reaching near religious zealot levels. I enjoy their minimalist designs quite a bit, however, I have never really understood such a level of devotion.
Ikea made the news recently for issueing an volutary recal of 100,000 or so folding chairs and […]

Here is an article about some rugs that have night lights built in. Think of them as multitasking rugs.
If we say that the night light doesn’t cause a trip hazard, I’m not so convinced that the rug would be all that comforting. But, hey I’ve never tried one of these.

For that Rugged Look

Bison, or the American buffalo, is in many ways a wonderful animal. The meat can be excellent (though, at times it can also be somewhat tough) and the furs can be quite nice.
A bison’s coat can be an excellent material for a rug or the skin can be used as a rug itself. It is […]

Iran’s Marketing Woes

Here is an interesting article that talks about Iran’s declining share of the handwoven rug market. Aside from competition with other developing nations I would also argue that political climates are also adversely affecting Iran’s export image.
One of the greatest strengths of Iranian carpets is quality of the designs. One alternative, and middle path for […]

Coldbuster

Here is an interesting company that makes a series of flat heaters. One can put a heater underneath one of your rugs for a warm and comfortable glow.
I would suggest using these underneath a wool rug. Other materials, especially synthetic ones, might be a little too flammable for this use.
