How Important is Origin?

This article talks about a show at MoMA called “Seventeen ways of Looking.” This is a show of art made by ‘Islamic Natives’ (mostly artists from Islamic countries).

The works described in this article sound quite nice, and also quite explicit (such as the prayer rug made of needles).

In general the show is intended to question the importance of origin in art and speak to the universality of artistic expression.

One example is the traditional handwoven silk rug with a center medallion that is an Irish shamrock.
