Shakyamuni

Sometimes the term Shakyamuni is used to refer to Siddhartha Gautama, the Buddha.
The term more literally can be translated into “The Sage of the Shakyas.”

Mosaics on the Dome of the Rock

The dome of the rock is also beautifully decorated with mosaic both on the outside and inside. This work is an excellent example of arabesque and the use of calligraphy in architecture.
