Taj Mahal
In one of the more modern lists of the seven wonders of the world contains the Taj Mahal in Agra India. This is a truly wonderful building made largely out of white marble. The building was commissioned by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan as a mausoleum for his wife.
This is also a very good example of Mughal architecture. It incorporates features of Hindu architecture from the large stone edifice to some of the iconography carved into the building. It also includes features from Persian architecture. For example the arched entrance and large dome are often seen in Persian architecture as well as the use calligraphy with passages from the Qu’ran used as decorative architectural elements.
