Eid ul-Adha ( ??? ?????)

January 10th was the first day of the Islamic festival of Eid ul-Adha. This holiday occurs at the end of the Hajj (the pilgrimage to Mecca). Eid ul-Adha is four days long, however, the first day is the primary holiday. On this first day people are expected to dress in their finest cloths and perform prayer in a large congregation.

This holiday commemorates the willingness of Abraham to sacrifice his son for God. In observing this date those Muslims, who are able, sacrifice a domestic animal (usually a sheep). The meat is distributed to one’s neighbors and extra care is taken to make sure than no impoverished Muslim is left without food.
