Buddhist texts

Buddhism is one of the largest religions in the world, and a dominant religion in much of Asia. There are many sects of Buddhism and some are quite different from each other. In some forms of Buddhism religious texts are extremely important. For example in present day Tibetan monasteries the monks still poses manuscripts that are extremely valuable to them.

Another aspect of some forms of Buddhism is that repetition of works of art is considered to be quite auspicious. There was a situation where one million small votive stupas were made and another situation where one thousand separate statues were made.

This veneration for texts as well as the use of multiple works of a single form of art led to one of the earliest examples of a wood block press. This press from the 18th century was apparently used in a temple in Korea.
